Seriously… what are you waiting for?
One of the really cool things about being The Crackerjack Shack, is that we get to be involved with all types of very worthwhile causes. For instance, coming up on April 23, is the 2nd Annual Liv’s Run for Life 5K Run/Walk being held at the Republic Aquatic Center.
First, it’s going to be a really fun event.
More importantly, however, is that it raises funds for a very good cause – raising awareness for organ donations.
See, every time we get a new or renewed driver’s license, we have the option of whether or not we want to mark the box designating us as an organ donor… should the unthinkable happen.
Organ donation can be a ticklish topic. However, for some of us, like Olivia Lauryn Didway, it’s a no brainer. It’s the ultimate – to gift a piece of yourself to a total stranger so that they may go on to live, work and play with their family and friends.
And, that’s just what happened when 17-year old Olivia was involved in a fatal car crash in 2014. Her organs went to five recipients that she had never met. Then, her tissue donation went on to affect countless other recipients.
Raising Awareness
Designed to raise awareness of the important role organ and tissue donations play in saving lives, Liv a Life of Love is a charitable fund set up through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. The first Liv’s Run for Life, held in 2015, resulted in an amazing turnout by the community, surprising her mother, Angela Rose, by drawing in more than 400 participants.
“We were really only expecting about 200 people,” she said.
You can help to make this year’s run an even bigger success. Be sure to sign up for the event as soon as possible. Each participant gets a beautiful limited edition super soft race shirt (printed by the awesome production crew at The Crackerjack Shack, of course), and a drawstring sports bag.
Cost for the event is $25.00. Fee to sign up on the day of the race is $30.
Proceeds will benefit the Liv a Life of Love Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Mid-America Transplant House in St. Louis in memory of Olivia.
